The majority of parks that received fertilizer with PCBs have reopened after soil testing found no PCBs, or low levels (under 0.3 parts per million). Soil samples revealed no detectable levels at 16 of 30 parks tested.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is investigating how and where PCBs entered the sewer system, contaminating fertilizer that was spread on isolated areas within five Milwaukee County Parks. The Wisconsin DNR is also investigating the source of the PCBs.

More than three inches of rain in two hours overwhelmed isolated areas of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) sewer system, leading to two separate sewer overflows on Sunday evening.
