The following information is being sent to the Wisconsin DNR regarding sewer overflows from the regional sewer system.

The majority of parks that received fertilizer with PCBs have reopened after soil testing found no PCBs, or low levels (under 0.3 parts per million). Soil samples revealed no detectable levels at 16 of 30 parks tested.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is investigating how and where PCBs entered the sewer system, contaminating fertilizer that was spread on isolated areas within five Milwaukee County Parks. The Wisconsin DNR is also investigating the source of the PCBs.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) extends its deepest sympathy to the families, friends and coworkers of those killed or injured today by the tragic explosion at the Falk Corporation. MMSD does have sewer infrastructure under and near the Falk property. So far, no damage from the explosion is visible or apparent.

You can reduce the risk of basement backups and sewer overflows by using less water at home and work. We each use about 65 gallons of water a day. If all of MMSD’s customers used just 10 gallons less water a day, we could reduce usage by 11 million gallons.

More than three inches of rain in two hours overwhelmed isolated areas of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) sewer system, leading to two separate sewer overflows on Sunday evening. Despite the intense cells that poured over the southern half of the District, no overflows occurred from the Deep Tunnel or combined sewer area.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, managing agency, along with primary contractor Shea-Kenny Joint Venture and primary consultant Black & Veatch Corporation will be presented with the award.

Strong storms produced up to 3.94 inches of rain in the combined sewer area on September 25. MMSD captured and treated approximately 1.5 billion gallons of wastewater and rain. The Deep Tunnel captured 423 million gallons of wastewater that would have spilled into area waterways.

Located northeast of Donges Bay and Granville Roads, the Little Menomonee River and Pigeon Creek run through the property.

An MMSD Commissioner for 5 years, Bell has also served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1982 to 1995. She’s held the position of Mayor of West Allis since 1996.
