Basement backups can be very dangerous.

1. Do not go into a basement with standing water. Electricity + Water = Danger.
2. Call your municipal public works department to report the problem.  Emergency phone numbers for each municipality are listed below.  Please contact your municipality first.  If your municipality is unable to help you, call MMSD at (414) 282-7200.  
3. Call your homeowners / renters insurance agent.
4. Wait for the water to drain out of the basement before entering. Or, call a qualified
   electrician to disconnect the power before you enter a flooded basement.
5. Take pictures or video of the contents in your basement before cleaning.
6. Begin cleaning. Make sure to disinfect any affected area with a bleach and water solution (four tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water).
7. Make a written record of the date and time the basement backup started and ended.
8. Make a record of what was damaged with an estimate of the value.
9. Consider hiring a cleaning service.

2. Llame a su Departamento de Labores Públicas municipal para reportar el problema (414-286-8282)
3. Llame a MMSD (Distrito de Alcantarillado Metropolitano de Milwaukee) para reportar
   el problema al 282-7200
4. Llame al agente de seguro para dueños de propiedad o para inquilinos
5. Espere a que el agua drene hacia fuera del sótano antes de entrar. O, llame a un
    electicista calificado para que desconecte la electricidad (poder eléctrico) antes
    de que usted entre a un sótano inundado.
6. Tome fotos o video del contenido en su sótano antes de limpiarlo.
7. Comience a limpiar. Asegúrese de desinfectar cualquier área afectada con
   una solución de cloro y agua.
8. Tome en consideración contratar un servicio de limpieza

• Si usted mismo(a) limpia el sótano, asegúrese de usar /vestir ropa apropiada
  para su protección, tales como: botas de goma y guantes.

• Cualquier cosa que no se pueda limpiar debe tirarse a la basura.
